The report assigns Streamsong a perfect Golf Vacation Index score of 100, beating out heavy hitters like Pebble Beach and Pinehurst. However, the study lists a median hotel rate of just $89 per night, a figure that feels wildly off for a luxury resort in peak season.
The Math Behind the Score
According to MyGolfSpy, the “Golf Vacation Index” weighs five specific metrics to generate its final ranking. Golfweek and Golf Digest provide the top 100 public course ratings that Course Quality relies on, giving it the greatest influence at 26 percent. Search Demand and Golf Course Supply each account for 21 percent of the score, while Playable Climate makes up 17 percent. Price rounds out the list at 15 percent, though the study defines this strictly as median hotel cost rather than green fees.
The report ranks Streamsong Red as the number one destination based on these calculations. Pebble Beach finished in second place with a 97.4 score, and Pinehurst took third with 92.4. These numbers suggest Streamsong is the clear winner, but the methodology hides some tricky details that change how a traveler should view the result.
Questions on Price and Weather
The $89 median hotel rate cited by the study jumps out as the most questionable figure for regular golfers. Guests who have remained at the Streamsong lodge during high season are aware that the true expense greatly exceeds that figure. The study likely includes motels and hotels within a 35-mile radius where summer rates drop significantly to pull the average down.
That lower price comes with a catch for players trying to save money in the heat. Anyone from central Florida knows that playing golf in July or August can be, ahhh, just a tad humid. The “Playable Climate” metric counts days between 55 and 95 degrees, but it does not account for the heavy humidity that makes those summer rounds physically difficult.
Defining Destination Quality
The study also claims there are 33 “destination-grade” public access courses within a 35-mile radius of Streamsong. This high number of nearby courses boosts the Golf Course Supply score, helping Streamsong reach its perfect 100 rating. Yet, the definition of “destination-grade” remains vague when compared to the actual quality of play found at other top resorts.
MyGolfSpy notes that the study normalizes supply for coastal areas like Bandon or Pebble, which affects how the count is calculated. While Streamsong clearly offers superb golf and impeccable facilities, the specific numbers used to crown it the number one spot leave room for doubt.
