True Temper has done something the steel shaft world has not seen since 1942. The company is no longer making every iron in a set fly the same way. New Dynamic Gold Flighted shafts now launch long irons higher while keeping short irons lower. This specific design shift means a 4-iron flies higher with more stopping power, while a pitching wedge stays low and punchy.

GolfWRX reported that this change targets a specific problem players face on the course. Most golfers want height in the long end of the bag but need control near the green. “Players love Dynamic Gold for how it feels and how it holds its line, but they are lookingfor a different flight out of a 4-iron than they need out of a pitching wedge,” said Scott Cokeing, Senior Director of Alloy Engineering at True Temper.

The Tip Section Does the Heavy Lifting

Engineers did not just tweak the weight to get this result. They examined the tip section of each shaft to alter launch without losing the famous Dynamic Gold feel. The team used a more aggressive 3/4-inch change between shafts instead of the traditional half-inch shift. This larger gap forces the ball to climb higher in the long irons before dropping off in the wedges.

Each shaft in the set saw its handle section length modified by True Temper as well. The tip helps position the flight exactly where players require it, and these changes operate alongside that guidance. “The challenge waschanging trajectory without changing the feel. Adjusting the tip and butt lengths inconcert with one another creates a flighted trajectory set that Dynamic Gold hasn’t hadbefore,” Cokeing told GolfWRX.

This approach solves a common fitting issue. A single shaft profile often forces a compromise. Players either get too much height in the wedges or not enough in the long irons. The new Flighted line removes that compromise by giving each club a distinct flight path.

Pricing and Available Flex Options

The new shafts hit the market in four distinct flexes with varying weights. Options include the R300 at 100 grams, the S300 at 110 grams, and the X100 at 120 grams. A new Proto option is also available, tipping the scales at 131 grams for the strongest players.

Professional tours have already tested the Flighted Proto shafts. Regular players can now buy the current line for $40.99 per shaft. This price point keeps the technology accessible without requiring a custom order.

Some added launch at the top end of the bag will benefit most players. The short irons will offer more control from a penetrating flight into the greens. When approaching the greens with short irons, your 4- or 5-iron will achieve greater height, providing improved stopping power and enhanced control.

The industry has seen many shaft updates, but few change the fundamental flight of the set this way. True Temper kept the stability and consistency that made the brand famous. They simply added a layer of technology that matches how golfers actually play the game.
